Harbinger is a vegetable focused small plates concept featuring flavors inspired by our chef’s trips through SE Asia and beyond. Our mission is to tell the story of the place we call home and the amazing products that Iowa provides. We work endlessly to support local, not just with our food, but within our day-to-day operations.
Harbinger is the brainchild of Chef Joe Tripp and Restaurateur Jason Simon. Joe Tripp, a Des Moines native and graduate of the University of Iowa, first pursued his passions in the kitchen at the famed Colorado restaurant Fruition. It was there that he learned the importance of details and respect for the ingredients on the plate. Upon returning home, he teamed up with Simon to run the kitchen at Alba, eventually earning two James Beard nominations for Best Chef Midwest.
